HCD Corrected Shoot-To Range

The Impact 850 uses HCD (Horizontal Component Distance) angle-compensated ranging technology to give bow and rifle shooters the critical distance data needed to make accurate shots.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love Vortex! Haven’t had a chance to use this for hunting yet, but I did compare it to my old rangefinder and it performed very well. I like that this rangefinder is smaller and faster than my old rangefinder, but I bought it because of the VIP warranty. I also own Vortex binoculars. Long story short - they got damaged while hunting and the Vortex VIP warranty was everything they said it was and more. I sent it in, got a return date - I emailed back and asked if I could get it sooner as I was going hunting soon - they said no problem, they would move it to the front of the line - got ‘em back a few days later. Great products, great warranty, and great customer service!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does exactly what it says. Great rangefinder for 90% of hunters. The 400 yd rating on "deer sized" objects is spot on and plenty for the vast majority of shooters. Yes, you may need more range for precise shots above this range in extreme western situations for an excellent marksman. If you hunt anywhere from the Mississippi River valley east, you likely will never need more range than this. The one thing that may hang you up if you have less than great eyesight is that the feedback is all displayed in black rather than illuminayed red. This can make it somewhat difficult to see and I can see this being a problem for someone who struggles with vision in low light scenarios. If that was added as a feature I'd be all over a 5 star rating here. That said, this is a "budget" range finder that brings outstanding quality to a very competitive MSRP and a real world prices often WELL south of 0. That price for an angle compensating rangefinder that is demonstrably accurate is fantastic. If you can handle the black display and don't need the longer ranges, this may well be the place to look.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great entry-level RF Bought this rangefinder on sale. Considering the price, and warrenty, I can’t imagine i’ll need to buy a more expensive RF. I’m only using this for hunting and target practice. I’ll never need to range an animal outside 850y. Seems to be easy to use and well constructed. I like how light weight it is. So far I don’t that not having the reticle iluminated will be a big deal, especially since i’ll be using it during the day.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome new product! This is the first rangefinder I've ever owned. I've used other ones before and this is the best one I've found for the price. It is quick to pick up and very accurate.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Gift for my dad and he loves it! I bought the Impact range finder 2 Xmas's ago and he's used it every time he's been out hunting since. He mostly crossbow hunts now but old eyes are getting more difficult to tell the difference between 30 and 50! Those make major changes in the way you aim your crossbow for those that don't know. It's the difference in hitting the kill zone vs hitting the dirt by its feet at 50 yards on a whitetail. He loves it and I'm thinking about buying myself one or the next model up to help with my rifle hunting.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good range finder but. I bought this rangefinder for hunting, its an amazing product. Vortex always shows up. I only buy Vortex for optics. However going into the 3d archery session I noticed that it doesn't read well on all black targets like bears and hogs. I talked 4 guys into buying this finder and all of us have the same issue. It will not pick up 3d targets that are black. Step your game up vortex :) Love you guys. #teamvortex

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for Budget Hunters Recently ordered the Impact after looking through it at work one day. I love the readout (even though it isn't red), how accurate it is and how quick it displays. For someone looking for quality at a decent price this is where to go. I'm excited to keep using it this season. The only thing I would've loved to see was the pocket clip like the Rangers have, everything else is awesome for the price.

Was using my impact 850 this morning and all of the sudden it quit reading distances and just showed up with an E3 reading no distance or anything. Can't do anything with the menu or anything. What happened, and what can I do to fix it?

Asked by: Coyote_Mike
We may need to have a look at it for you, give us a call at 800-426-0048 ext 6 to get set up to send it in.

if its rated at 850 yards why will only pick up an animal at 400 yards

Asked by: Spud
The 850 yards is on reflective targets, an animal is considered a soft target that will absorb some of the laser so it cannot range as far.

Does the impact rangefinder range on a black colored animal or black 3d target no matter the amount of light present?

Asked by: Bowtech
Black targets can be challenging to range at times because they absorb all wavelengths of the light spectrum, so it is situational depending on the target and atmospheric conditions. The matter of light present can be a factor at times in extreme lighting conditions. Should you have trouble I would recommend using the scan feature and range directly next to the target or different parts of it. Usually does the trick!
