Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect price point for a stable tripod! Using the Pro GT tripod for multiple purposes right now, and it's worked great. I haven't found/made a good weapon mount for using it to shoot from yet, but will work on that during the winter. I currently mount my chronograph for checking pistol and rifle velocities. I also mount my Razor HD spotting scopes, adjusting the height of the legs to match seated or standing positions for a spotter. Last of all, I was able to find a phone mount to use for an iPhone, which comes in handy using the slow-mo feature for a lateral recording of a pistols recoil impulse when testing recoil spring weights.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Big and heavy, but stable I ordered this tripod without looking at it in the store, and kind of wish I had. While I wanted something that was relatively stable and could hold the bigger Viper scope I have, this tripod does not collapse down very small, and is pretty heavy. I certainly won't be packing it around, especially since I don't think it will even fit in my pack. However, for spotting at the range and from a stationary point while hunting (camp, high road, etc...) it would work well. Quality is good, it is very stable and I like that it doesn't use the ball system. Would recommend for certain applications.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid performance! I love this tripod for shooting at the range. I can expect flawless performance in the wind while videoing my shots through my viper spotting scope and I've even shot off the top with a 308 cal. For a solid rest. 3 years and its going strong!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best tripod I have purchased Bought this for my Vortex Razor HD 27-60x85 spotting scope. It is very well built and smooth operating. Perfect for setting up at home to view the mountains and for looking at stars and the moon at night. I also use it on my shorter hikes to watch and video elk. Stable, sturdy, and priced right! Good job again Vortex!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Tripod!! This is the best tripod I have ever had! I have tried multiple tripod combinations and this is the best one and its at a great price. I also have the summit ss and I like it for the size but I noticed when your glassing its hard to keep steady especially with a spotting scope I wanted to get a more sturdy tripod for my spotting scope and was planning to use the summit for my 15x56 binoculars. Well after using this tripod a few times I just decided to buy another quick release plate and now I just swap out my spotter and binoculars and stick with one tripod. The pan head is very smooth and much easier to use for long glassing sessions compared to a ball head tripod with no handle. It is a little heavier and bulkier than the summit but it is way worth it when your up high glassing for hours.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It's a good pod So I have had this for a little over 3 months. I have used it many times and I keep my scope mounted in it even when it's not in use (I will stop doing this). The lock down lever broke the center out so I could not lock the scope down. I believe this is do to me back packing it around with a 80 mm spotting scope still locked into it. Just could not take the stress. The locking plate is decent but in order to keep it from moving around you need to crank the screw at the bottom hard so it indents into the cork material on the top. By doing this I broke off the screw tab that flips out but the base has been staying in place now. I called vortex about the two broken parts and within three minutes of being on the phone they shipped the parts out to me. Thanks guys! And looking forward to the PST gen II I have on order.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great tripod This is not too heavy. This is a well built sturdy tripod. I saw a number of reviews that it was too heavy, but it seemed to meet my needs for a spotting scope tripod. I am glad I got it. Its well put together and works great. The quick release works great. You could easily carry this and a Vortex Viper spotting scope in a pack while hiking without an issue.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice tripod for the price! Really stable in any conditions! Holds my 85mm without any movement. Easy to adjust and use! Hard to find everything you want for the price. Only cons is it doesn't fold down very small and it is a little heavy for long hunts but you have to have some trade offs.

Are the Vortex quick release plates compatible with the Arca-Swiss style plates?

Asked by: HoosierBirder
The plates are not cross compatible.

Is the middle gray section that is the bottom of the head supposed to unscrew very easily from the base? I just got it and a Vortex scope, and if I put even the slightest pressure on the scope, the whole thing starts to unscrew. It feels very unstable.

Asked by: Holly
If that part is coming loose, you will want to tighten the handle and turn the head clockwise to tighten it up. That is the section to remove the head from the tripod and it should be tight.

Can you shoot from this tripod and if so, do you sell a mount?

Asked by: mburke
The Pro GT tripod has a max weight rating of 10 lbs, and it is not as stable for shooting as some tripods that have higher weight ratings but it would work. We do not have a mount however to shoot off of.

I am six feet tall. Will the Pro GT provide the height I’m looking for while using a straight Razor HD?

Asked by: Lynn
With it extended all the way up, you should be able to see through a straight spotting scope.

Is there any way to attach a HOG saddle to this tripod or am I better off getting a Manfrotto tripod to shoot off of with a hog saddle?

Asked by: BangBangBang
The Hog Saddle can be mounted right to the quick release plate that comes with the Pro GT tripod.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great height Tripod fits all of my needs. It makes it easy to glass standing upright. The only complaints I have are that it is a bit on the heavy side, as well as it is a bit difficult to sit and glass with due to the middle sliding rod being in the way.
