HCD Corrected Shoot-To Range

The Ranger 1000 uses HCD (Horizontal Component Distance) angle-compensated ranging technology to give bow and rifle shooters the critical distance data needed to make accurate shots.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Crystal clear and TOUGH! I just bought this Rangefinder this year for my first archery hunt in Idaho. This thing is amazing! I can see everything in very low-light the lighted reticle is beautiful. This thing is also tough-as-nails! I was riding my 4 wheeler on a trail and it slipped off my backpack at 28mph onto the trail. I had to backtrack four and a half miles to find it laying in the middle of the trail. It was covered in dust but when I picked it up cleaned it off and look through it to test it out the thing worked just like it was new. I also know that it has an amazing VIP warranty so no worries at all. I will be nothing but Vortex products for all of my Optics.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid product at a reasonable price Purchased this rangefinder for my 12 year old sons first elk hunt. We were hunting in very windy, wet and snowy conditions. During our final stalk we had to crawl the last hundred yards through wet snowy ground. I had to wipe the accumulated slush off the lens with my wet glove at least 10 times prior to checking the range. Every time I put the optic to my eye I had a fog free lens and an accurate readout. My son shot his first elk at 350 yards and we have a freezer full of tasty meat. The shot was uphill and across a large drainage. Without the built in height corrected distance I would have totally guessed wrong on the distance. Thanks Vortex.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from First Range Finder This thing is solid. Clear optics. Excellent display. Easy to use. I am a surveyor by trade. As such I regularly use ,000+ dollar EDM's or Electronic Distance Meters. I basically got a mini version of our total station for my pocket which I think is awesome. I can tell you I have ranged everything in my yard, my neighbors yards and up and down the road to the shooting range. I don't know how long the battery will last, but I can tell you it did two solid days with no problems. I did however find it very hard to range with the fresh snowfall, which I presume is difficult to do with any rangefinder. Anyway I highly recommend this rangefinder.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I went hunting with a buddy who had these and he kept I went hunting with a buddy who had these and he kept telling us how great they were. After comparing them to the Pursuit XR600 we also had on the hunt, it was obvious why he raves about anything Vortex. The optical quality was incredible. I used to think that range-finder optics didn't matter much, but it makes a huge difference when you're hunting in the morning and evening. They also ranged much more consistently at a distance during those hours than the others did. I guess you just don't know how nice it is to have the better optics, consistent morning/evening ranging, angle-compensated range finding, (and the lifetime warranty) until you take a pair out into the field.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ranger 1000 I have now had this range finder after using many other brands. I was happy to Vortex came out with one. At first appearance, it looked and felt great right out of the box. As far as use, it blows the other brands I have used out of the water. This has gone hunting and shooting with me in the rain, sub zero temperatures, as well has very warm temperatures, and has never once failed me. Overall this range finder has been great, along with all of the other vortex products I use. I highly recommend Vortex and their products as they are great, and you cannot beat the VIP Warranty. Thanks for another great product!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Measure twice cut once !!! We've all heard that phrase before," measure twice cut once "! To be efficient and accurate we live by that standard, but you won't need to measure twice with this rangefinder at all !! Measure once and the next thing you will cutting is a delicious steak from the game you dropped at an accurately measured distance! This has to be one of simplest rangefinders to use with adjustable brightness and scan mode!! The angle compensator works great for gun and bow alike and the battery life is simply not an issue. Go ahead pick up the other 20 plus rangefinders behind the counter and ask them about their warranty.........?? Then just buy the best and Measure once Cut once and enjoy!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wow!! I purchased the Vortex Ranger 1000 just before last hunting season because my "other brand" rangefinder decided it wasn't going to work anymore. I have had my share of three other "nice" brand name rangefinders over my hunting lifespan and the honest truth is I was shocked at how well the Ranger 1000 performed.. My hunting partner purchased the Ranger 1000 at the same time I did and he feels the same way!! The value of such good quality optics is extremely important and when the cost of the Vortex Ranger 1000 is way less than I would expect to pay,, let's just say ALL my glass will soon be nothing but Vortex!!! Great value for outstanding performance!! 20 out of 5 stars in my book.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I need the Ranger 1500 now! I had never owned a laser range finder, and the more I got in to 3 gun, the more I recognized I needed one for some of these matches I was attending. Vortex provides me a known quantity of quality so the Ranger 1000 got first shot. I purchased my Ranger 1000 and have been pleased ever since. I have gotten readings as far as 800-900 yards with it, but my normal ranges fall in the 500 and under category. I love the fact that it has the angle compensation feature. Keeps me from having to know cosine values and compensate for angle. Just range it and go. It's been plenty accurate for my needs and has worked reliably in less than stellar ranging conditions.

With the rangefinder not reading out in decimals, does it round to the nearest yard?  IE 38.5 yards reads 39 and 38.4 yards reads 38.

Asked by: Bluebill7
It ranges up to 39 yrds.

How long (average) will a lithium battery last?
Asked by: Johnbo
Battery life will depend on a number of different factors such as temperature, use, etc. I typically change the battery in my rangefinder every fall before hunting season to be safe.

Can this lock on to a golf pin?

Asked by: hello457
Our Ranger line of rangefinders do not have the ability to lock onto a flagstick reflector. They do still work very well for use on a golf course.

What is meant by deer range of 500 yards?it won't range deer past 500 yards?
Asked by: Kurt
I've ranged a bull elk at over 800 yards. I have no problem ranging out to 850. I don't always get deer at 800 but I'll aim at a tree directly behind or near the deer and that works if I can't get a deer. 500 yards should be no problem.

How cold can the rangefinder operate in?
Asked by: Nate
I can vouch that it will work at -25 F. I use my for late season cow elk hunts with temperatures between 0 F to -25 F. I've bought mine 3 years ago and have not had any issues at all.

Can this product double as a golf range finder, especially considering the HCD function, as I understand, is a slope compensating mechanism?
Asked by: BenH
The HCD does compensate for angles. My colleague uses his for golfing all the time and it works well for him.

are all vortex products made in the USA?
Asked by: THOMAS
My box is marked clearly with a made in CHINA sticker. I'm disappointed it is made in CHINA and even more disappointing is that Vortex didn't answer the question. Partial honesty is not honesty. I expect more from Vortex.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best Range Finder I have ever used I have used many Range finders both in my Military career and for hunting and shoot after getting out of the Army. This range finder is easy to us and there is no second guessing if it accurate. The rubberized housing making it very tuff and easy to grip in wet weather. I have recommened this rang finder to many of my friends and they have either bought one or are planning on getting one asap. Vortex is the best optics company I have ever used. Not only do they take care Veterans they have the return policy I have ever seen. There pricing a second to none Everyone should use Vortex I hope to buy many more products.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great Rangefinder Albeit a Little Slow This is the first vortex product that I haven't been thrilled with. With regards to getting an accurate range I was always within a yard or 2 of my buddies so I'd give it 5 stars there. Glass is also excellent and I never had trouble finding anything with it or seeing through it. The downside is that I found it slow to range and I often had trouble getting a reading the first try. I'd stand in the same spot, trade with a buddy who had another brand, and 1 click later I'm getting a solid reading. Beyond that though, clear readings, good battery life, ergonomics however the time to get a distance is a major negative for my uses.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best rangefinder out there! Previous to purchasing my Ranger 1000 I have tried/owned many different rangefinders, some of them cheaper and some of them quite expensive. The Ranger 1000 hands down has the clearest picture and is the easiest to use and adjust to your preferred units of measure and readout brightness. The built in angle compensation is also a must for bowhunters and those hunting steep terrain. The Ranger works flawlessly in thick timber where other rangefinders have trouble identifying the object you want. I have used it in rain, fog, snow and low light and have never had a problem getting an accurate range readout. A Vortex rangefinder is the only rangefinder I will ever buy!
