Viper® HS LR™ 4-16x50 Riflescope — First Focal Plane

Limited Availability

Want to extend your effective shooting range at distances where bullet drop and wind drift become critical? Take a look at the Viper HS LR riflescope. The LR stands for long range — and we mean it. This riflescope features an exposed target-style elevation turret built for dialing elevation at extended ranges. The capped windage turret maintains the scope’s sleek lines and prevent it from hanging up on clothing, rifle cases or pack scabbards.

Viper HS LR riflescopes feature an advanced optical system highlighted with a 4x zoom range for magnification versatility. A forgiving eye box with increased eye relief gets shooters on target quickly and easily. Built on an ultra-strong 30mm one-piece machined aluminum tube for increased windage and elevation travel and optimal adjustment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Highly recommended this scope!! When I was searching for glass for my .308 there were alot of contenders that I was looking at. I had the opportunity to shoot a friend's rifle with a Viper series scope on it and was so impressed that I decided to pull the trigger on this one for myself. With 300 rounds down range as of now I could not be more pleased! This scope is a must have for serious shooters!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Vortex are the only optics I will purchase I will tell you why. My father is a traditional man and has Leopold optics on everything. I switched to Vortex when I purchased my first pair of Vortex viper binks. They have amazing clarity and allow lots of light for low light situations. I then purchased the HSLR scope and put it on my 300 win. I absolutely love the set up. It consistently performs time and time again. Plus you can't beat the warranty. I would also say it's the best bang for your buck. You are getting a quality glass for a great price. I have looked through several other Vortex products such as the spotting scope and I would love to add one to my Vortex arsenal. I am a Vortex customer for life and highly recommend them to all hunters and sports enthusiasts. I utilize my products mostly on hunting deer, elk, and antelope on montana. Spot and stalk scenarios and Vortex optics certainly suit my desires! Highly recommend to anybody looking for quality optics at reasonable prices.

Picks up amazing light in the evening for hunting! Got a friend with a zies scope he paid 4x what I did and he's dosent even come close to as good or optics as the vortex !! Thanks guys keep it up!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Optics I have several vortex optics and this is just another great example. This scope makes me look good. As I was first sighting it in I had a couple questions and when I contacted Vortex they were right on it. Great optics Great customer service and will continue to have my business. Thanks

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great match for my 700. It's on a SA 700 with Larue rail and mounts. It was way to zero and has held it. It's feature heavy and I haven't had an issue yet. The adjustment could be smoother. It takes a harder crank than you'd think. Like all the vortex items I've used, these are worth the money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Apprehension to Approval Bought this for a long range hunting rig to shave a few ounces over the typical PST 6-24x50mm that I run on my other rifles. I wanted something a little lighter with capped windage turret and MOA reticle. I also liked the idea of the 1/2 MOA elevation turret and being able to hit 1000yds in one revolution but I was a bit apprehensive about such large adjustment increments at extended ranges as well as about the busy, open-centered reticle. After spending some time behind the rifle and looking through the glass I must now say it is a perfect fit for the rifle and I love everything about the scope. I have had consistent and repeatable accuracy out to 1080yds, having no issues with the 1/2 MOA graduations. The reticle is not as busy or distracting as I had feared, and I actually find myself preferring the open-center style reticle with center dot as it makes it a little easier to ensure you have centered your target (when you're not holding for wind of course). It's too bad this scope was discontinued because it's a real winner.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great budget scope I put this scope on my Remington 700 and it's a great piece of glass for the money. Reliable, accurate and dependable and can take a beating. I was on a budget when building my rifle so I did a lot research before choosing this scope. It's amazing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No regrets buying this scope. I use the scope at the range and also hunting. My previous scope was A L brand 3 x 9 and my best group at the range was inch and a quarter to inch and a half MOA I'm out to the scope myself and now my gun shoots half inch MOA all day.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wish I had one on every Rifle! Mounted this on a new AR-10 .243 and this has to be the best Scope I have ever experienced. Engineered to perfection and a clear and powerful optics. This is the first but definetly not the last Vortex I will buy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Optic! I have this Optic mounted on a Remington 700 chambered in .300 Win Mag. My rifle does have quite a bit of recoil. I have broken 3 previous scopes from other major manufacturers. I was looking for an optic that would bridge the gap between hunting long range and tactical. I have spent an excessive amount of time behind tactical optics. One look through this Vortex Optic and I was instantly "at home". After a few brief shooting session I was able to determine impact out to 700 yards. Using the adjustable turrets was a dream! I have shot both low end and high end optics. On cheaper optics you can hear a "cute" little "ping" as you work the turret. On Vortex, it was a definitive adjustment. this made me feel great about the internal components. I have now had this optic on my .300 Mag for two years. I have never had any problems with losing zero. That says a lot for me because I am often hard on my gear. This Optic has accompanied me on may trips in North America and soon to the plains of South Africa. Thanks Vortex for making a quality product that "regular guys" can afford too!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great scope The turret design is 2nd to none. The ability to have a true zero gives you confidence after adjusting for longer shots. With the VIP warranty there is a peace of mind that your investment is protected.

Would the Viper HSLR 4-16 X 50 FFP be a good fit and good all around optic for a LARUE 6.5 platform 500-1000yd ranges

Asked by: Jorovi
The FFP 4-16 HS-LR is discontinued and no longer available. If you can find one it would work well for you. You'll want a 20 MOA canted base for that application. I would suggest taking a look at the Gen II PST 3-15 FFP.

I’m looking for a scope to primarily serve as a western hunting setup to go on top of a Tikka CTX but for the secondary purpose as a long range target scope (800+ yards). Is this scope a good option for both?

Asked by: Desert Dan
The Viper HSLR would work great for a hunting scope as well as on the range.

Mounting this on a tikka t3x with a 20 MOA rail. Will your low tactical rings keep me keep me close but not touching the barrel?  Thanks!

Asked by: Dave
For your setup I recommend a set of our 30 mm Pro Rings or Precision Matched Rings in medium height (0.97"). The Tactical Rings are not designed for use on rifle scopes, they are designed to be used in a single ring application like with a red dot.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolutely I have razor HD binos, hs lr scopes on my guns, ranger 1000 on my bino harness and a diamondback spotting scope. Needless to say I love vortex. The hslr is amazing. Love the ffp and the crystal clear glass. I have one mounted on my 300 win and it always holds it zero. Totally repeatable on the dial. I have zero complaints. Vortex customer service is incredible, I had an issue with my ranger 1000. I sent it back an was quoted a 15 day turn around. My elk hunt would have been half over by then, I called vortex and they had a new unit at my door in 5 days. Just in time for my hunt! I love vortex products and will be a vortex guy for life.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Repeatable adjustment! Long range shooting is new to me. I have been a hunter for many years, but more recently have entered the realm of long range shooting. I purchased a Viper Vortex HS LR FFP for a intermediate/long range rifle I had built and used the combination for a long range shooting course. The scope held up well to the rigors of the course. The optics are clear and the eye relief is adequate for big calibers. Most importantly to a long range shooter the adjustments are precise, intuitive and repeatable. One can zero at 100 yards, add 38.5 MOA for a 1000 yard shot and drop back to zero without a problem. I am very impressed. I love this scope.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well built scope! I've had this scope about 7 months. I did my research and everything lead me to this scope. This is my first Vortex but it will not be my last. I am beyond pleased with its performance. First off, the glass is crystal clear. It is the best looking glass you can get for the money, hands down. The turrets are tight and each click is precise and smooth. You can feel the quality with every click. I mounted this scope on my Tikka T3 hunter .308. This is my primary hunting rifle. My son took his first buck with this setup this year. I was really impressed with how much light this scope lets in at dusk. I can see better through the scope than with my eyes. I am sold on Vortex.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I've been Vortex'd I bought a Vortex viper HSLR FFP 4-16x50 and I absolutley love it. You can really feel the quality when you hold it in your hand. The turret tracking is great as well as crystal clear glass. I love how the mil-reticle zooms with the magnification, so you don't lose your calculation. I'm now the proud owner of a Vortex Spitfire 3x prism red dot as well as the Strikefire 2 with the vmx3t magnifier. I've had an excellent customer service experience from Vortex and they will definitely be my first go to in optics.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great scope I love every feature of this scope, the only thing its lacking is an illuminated reticle. The 1/2 MOA clicks are great for speed. The XLR reticle is AMAZING, plenty of Vertical and Horizontal stadia lines for hold overs. I have had this scope mounted on a .308 and 6.5CM. Glass is plenty clear for 1500yd shots. Wish it had an illuminated reticle for hunting in low light. On low magnification in low light, the reticle is hard to see. Other than that; this is an excellent scope for the money.
Date published: 2017-06-07
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great scope. Excellent features. The scope has fit nearly every need I have. Optically it has been great and runs with all but the most expensive scopes. It has a detailed MOA based reticle and elevation turret. My only challenge is the reticle is too small for close distance jump shooting. A second focal plane would be better for my own application because the reticle is thin enough at long distance and thick enough at close distance. Other than that it has been very sturdy and reliable. Tracking is spot on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent field of view I use this on a 300rum it is my all around big game gun for here in Wyoming. The field of view is exceptional, the clarity is great and the light it pics up at dusk when it really counts is excellent, as this is when most elk and deer start to really move out. I also use the screw in shade at dawn witch really helps when you have to shoot into the sun. The only bad is I have the MOA and do not use it to its full potential because I'm still old school and learning lol.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A leupold gent no more I used to be a straight up leupold guy loved the vx2 on my .270. However bought a new .338 and the guy at sportsman's warehouse sold me on a brand I hadn't really paid attention to. The clarity on my viper hslr was killer, but the real seller for me was the ffp feature where my reticles got bigger with each turn of the zoom - sold. I shoot out to 800 with my hand loads and couldn't be happier!
