Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great but..... Birdwatching only. I love these binos, great clear crisp images, sturdy, easy to use, but......... the right eyecup has come loose, hard to keep focus, constantly fiddling around with eyecup, must have had to readjust a hundred times last time out birding. I love that they are made here in America and it was a big reason I got them. My Nikon Monarchs have the same issue so I am hoping that Vortex will come through with a fix where Nikon was no help at all. I have a HD Razor scope and it has been spot on perfect since I got it so it was a bit disappointing to have something as fundamental as the eyecup to fail. Sorry for the double posting....

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great glass....greater company! We've had these for 2 years now with no problems and wonderful viewing, especially for the price. My wife mainly used them and when I had them one day I noticed the diopter ring wouldn't move. Contacted Vortex and Graham Goeglein quickly answered back to send them back to be fixed. I took less than 10 days to go from my house to Vortex where they replaced the diopter assembly. They also replaced the lens caps and checked and cleaned everything else. All of this was at no cost whatsoever, just like their warranty says. I wish all companies had service like this. I highly recommend Vortex products to anyone interested.....can't go wrong here!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great bins! Just thought I'd add to my previous review on these binoculars to give prospective purchasers an idea on how they perform over time. What I love about these bins is the 'build quality'. For a fraction of the price of the 'known brands' such as Zeiss, Leica, Swarowski etc, you get a superb optical performance. I have owned my 'bins' for two years and they were a replacement for my 35 year old Swift Audubons which I thought would be irreplaceable. Would I buy Vortex again? Absolutely. They are fantastic. Would I replace them? Yes! When I have enough money to upgrade to the Vortex HD! Thanks Vortex-Fantastic bins and great value for money to boot! Gibbo

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Diamondback 8x42 I've used these binos for almost two years now, they are great. It did take me a while to get them focused for my eyes so that I did not feel cross eyed when pulling them away from my eyes. After getting them properly focused they are extremely clear when compared to similarly priced binos. Others brands that I have had over the years usually last one to two years then start become harder to get a good crisp picture out of them. The diamomondbacks are still going strong with their clarity and low light morning and evening glassing is phenomenal. I would recommend for anyone wanting an entry-level bino! Well built, durable and can not beat the warranty!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Diamond Back Birthday I had a pair of cheap Pawn shop binoculars for a long time, The wife does not hunt but she is always there with me and usually has the cheap binoculars that I got a pawn shop. She know's that I have a few Vortex scopes (4) and while at a sporting goods store she saw a binocular display, I did not think anything of it I was looking at some rifles. a week later it was birthday time for Tom, there they were a Diamondback 8 x 42 set of binoculars. I asked how she knew I needed some, In here words, " after looking through the cheap binoculars you had for years, now we might be able to see something. Now I have added a Diamondback Spotting scope. Love that woman and a great pair of Vortex Diamondback binoculars.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent Purchase and a Cut Above in its Price Point. I use this pair of Binoculars for both my bow and rifle hunting applications. They work well in the area that I hunt which has a lot of shade from the canopies of oak trees. I love the field of view that helps me acquire game quickly even in low light. For the price, you can not go wrong with the Diamondback. The glass is clear and is easily adjustable, and you only start seeing a little haze interference at far distances, i.g. 600-700 yards. My eyesight is 20/10, so l'm not just seeing things. However, I spot my game from 500 yards max, and hunt them around 300 yards max, so this is not a problem for me. You can tell that Vortex puts a lot into the quality of their glass, at all price points, and for most applications, the Diamondback will leave you satisfied.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Value I finally bought a new set of binoculars after years of using a set of Bushnells/Bausch and Lomb from the 80's. This was my 3rd Vortex purchase after two rifle scopes and I am very pleased with them. So far they have 2 hunting seasons and a trip out west to several National Parks. Clear all the way to dark and they haven't fogged on me yet. I got these well under 0 and they will run with anything in the price class. The 8 power is great for deer hunting in the east but I would go 10's if you are just using for general site seeing, birding, or are in the open spaces of the west.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Grand purchase! Purchased the diamondback 8x42 binos about 4 months ago and have been using them quite often viewing wildlife. Am quite happy with the clarity, smooth focus and field of view. The outer rubber coating seems to be durable and has a comfortable feel. Only problem I have is while out the lense covers don't hold on to well and fall off so I've had to use electrical tape to stop that from happening. Now to wait for hunting season! Am happy with this purchase and will buy vortex again for other optics, can't beat a good product with an no questions asked warranty if needed.

How can you tell the new 2016 model from previous models?
Asked by: Jim
It will have a hinge that is closer to the ocular end. The chassis will be magnesium now instead of polycarbonate. The housing is also more modern looking and has less texturizing. The model numbers are also different, the new ones start with DB### whereas the old model numbers were D###.

What is the relative brightness for the 8x42 Diamondback binos?
Asked by: scdjw75
The relative brightness for the 8x42 binoculars calculates to 27.6, but this measurement is going to be the same for every 8x42 binocular on the market because to calculate it you calculate the exit pupil (Objective lens in mm divided by magnification) then square that number. So numerically every 8x42 binocular will have the same value, and this number does not do anything to compare them across different brands.
